Through the support of and partnership with our community, over the span of 35 years, Courage360 (formerly WWEE – Washington Women’s Employment and Education) has served more than 19,000. Together we advanced the ability, courage and possibilities of those often living in poverty. Thanks to many, Courage360 delivered empowering curriculum, strength based case management, necessary financial support, and experiential learning through internships, all advancing the self sufficiency of families.
Courage360 was honored to be part of a strong network of direct service agencies, municipalities, foundations, colleges, and even the Departments of Commerce and Corrections with opportunities that advanced opportunities for minorities and women in nontraditional trades, supported women’s journeys from prison into life after incarceration, and helped place families into secure housing.
We additionally had multiple partnerships with colleges throughout both King and Pierce counties to accredit our curriculum and bring our programs onto their campuses. These partnerships would support incoming and struggling students, as well as prospective students not yet realizing the college opportunity. And we had partnered with United Way to pilot our first of three planned Centers for Strong Families to support ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, and Employed) families. Our first Center had opened in Bethel and we were excited to grow this all important work and to expand the populations we serve.
We tried mightily but unfortunately for more than five years Courage360 experienced, as have many nonprofits, significant reduction in funding. As a result, we operated with a very lean staff and resources, and although we worked diligently to decrease expenditures drastically and diversify funding to expand our footprint, these changes all took valuable time. Therefore, even with these great ideas and impressive innovations, ultimately, time ran out.
Courage360 programs will cease June 30, 2017. We are working closely with partners and participants to deliver the most seamless transitions possible. If you are a current participant and have not yet been reached, please contact our office at 253.474.933. We will also be adding a “Where to Turn” page on our website for client resources.
We are grateful for the strong support that allowed us to provide significant resources to our communities for 35 years, the participants who made our work worthwhile, the donors who made our work possible, and our community members who have supported and believed in us. Thank you for being part of our magic.
